The Legend (A tribute to Bob Marley)

For a life some consider to have been cut short or of an untimely ending I beg to suggest otherwise.

Robert Nesta Marley, renowned as Bob Marley: the soul on which reggae music was birth is a Jamaican by birth and an ‘embracer’ of the Rastafarian faith. Bob is known worldwide for many things but mostly for his contribution to Reggae music recognition internationally. He is also seen to have sparked many marijuana flames globally as he widely promoted his use of the highly scrutinized plant. A man whom is loved more now than when he was alive a kicking the footballs is seen today by many irrespective of culture or nationality as a legend. This for me a legendary accolade is just below that of a god as being a legend one is showered with many praises of high regard regardless of possessing only human abilities or disabilities for that matter. By not digging much too far into his personal life, it is evident that Bob wasn't flawless, he had one wife and another well-known sweetheart which in his short lived lifetime managed to score a few goals on them both that yielded him God's favourite number of children (seven). Though this piece of information might not be precisely factual or may differ with varying sources, it is known to be the most accepted of them all. Other than those two fine females of differing race and ethnicity Bob is said to also have other children outside his marriage but none of this made him a legend.
It is his music and his consciousness to living that made Bob a hero to many, he is still recognized as one of the finest faces of Jamaica along with an upcoming prodigy. Many still quote the words of the great icon even today around the world when referring to aspects of love, life, unity and freedom. He ministers through the words of his songs and on the rare occasions when he chose to take interviews but most of his evangelical works were done through his music and those were the things that made him into who he is today, a legend.

Another thing about legends that makes them supreme is their inability to die, yes Bob Marley isn't dead. Though his flesh might have passed but his legacy is still very much alive and relevant to every generation there is. And even though I have never known him personally, I always felt like I did and that is because both in our ignorance and in our knowledge of him make us acknowledge that the little we know or the little we don't doesn't take away from this fact.

But how coincidental or is it coincidence, that for a relatively light skinned Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley whom is accepted worldwide to be black was born on the internationally recognized month for black history commemoration, February. His birthday is celebrated on the sixth of the month each year and 2015 marks the year Bob Marley soul celebrate his 70th anniversary.

"The greatness of a man is not how much wealth he acquires, but in his ability to affect those around him positively." - Bob Marley
